Just Off Junction will give you cheaper fuel and food, just off motorway junctions
Motorway Services Online will tell you what’s available where at motorway service areas.

Between the two, you should be able to satisfy fussy eaters. Most service areas provide a food court with a range of eateries, everything from pasties to subs via burgers, including veggie ones.

IF there are unexpected diversions, it is a good idea to have checked tires (and pressure), brakes, water and battery before you set off. Unless you have breakdown cover, breaking down is £££

Another good idea, to avoid whines, is to remind people to charge devices before leaving and bring in-car chargers and headphones. Water and other beverages will help too, plus snacks, because you know someone will *forget*.

To avoid arriving at the crack of dawn, to get a parking space in Manchester city centre, try pre-booking. Pre-booked, you get 6 hrs for £6.00
NCP – Manchester King Street West
NCP – Manchester Printworks
NCP – Manchester Arena NB NO backpacks or large bags allowed within the Manchester Arena complex

Alternatively, you can pre-book a space in a Manchester Airport car park and get a bus or train into the city centre. DO check last train/bus times on a Sunday night though, to avoid an expensive cab ride to your car.
NCP – Manchester Airport

Park and ride in Greater Manchester is often by tram
Metrolink
Transport for Greater Manchester – Park and Ride Some car parks allow overnight parking at weekends, please check conditions.

NB: If travelling Saturday, expect roads, trains and trams in Manchester, Salford and Trafford to be busy before and after the Manchester United v Crystal Palace game (kick off 15:00 BST)
