Enid Blyton Five On Brexit Island

Enid Blyton (1897-1968) was a children’s author, whose books sold more than 600 million copies worldwide, in 90 languages. She is best known for her Noddy. Famous Five and Secret Seven series.

You may not have read any of her books as a child, because after her death, her books fell into disfavour. Enid Blyton’s language wasn’t always politically correct. On the other hand, the character ‘George’ in the Famous Five series is .. SPOILER ALERT … a girl.

Hodder and Stoughton. publisher and copyright holder for Enid Blyton, and Quercus, part of Hachette UK, have gotten together to produce a series of books for adults, in the style of Enid Blyton, using her characters. The series includes Five Go Parenting, Five Give Up The Booze, Five Go Gluten Free, Five Go On A Strategy Away Day and Five On Brexit Island.

These books are ideal stocking fillers, but unlike the Ladybird remixes, they do have a proper story (text by Bruno Vincent, in Five On Kirrin Island) in standard-sized font, which will keep a partner or relative  occupied while you baste the turkey.

Julian, George, Anne, Dick and Timmy declare that Kirrin Island should leave Britain and become independent…
